Polar Bear Sisters: New Dessert Spot in Town

Updated: Apr 27

New dessert spot tucked away in a deserted-looking building with delightful treats that exceed expectations. Prices lean towards the average to high side, with premium ice cream scoops at $7.50 and an additional $4.50 for waffles. Recommended to pair their ice cream with $1.50 wafer cones instead - they are crispy, addictive, and handmade.

Nestled amidst the bustling streets near Clarke Quay and Chinatown lies a hidden gem that dessert enthusiasts should consider visiting - Polar Bear Sisters. My partner and I were curious about this new dessert place, so we decided to accept the collaboration. This led us through the somewhat empty floors of Havelock 2 building, where we found this gem at Level 2.

As we stepped into the quiet atmosphere of Polar Bear Sisters, we were greeted by the inviting sight of vibrant ice cream flavours on display behind the counter. With 22 seats scattered around the open-concept space, I think this dessert place offers the perfect setting for a cozy, intimate date or a laid-back hangout with friends.

Note: Cakes and Acai Fruit Bowls are subject to availability.

Polar Bear Sisters specialise in ice cream served on its own, with freshly made waffles, or with crispy wafer cones. Their ice cream flavours includeĀ Premium Pistachio, Mao Shang Wang Durian, Hazelnut, Sea SaltĀ Toffee Cookies, Strawberry Cheesecake, Mint Cookies Chips, Thai Milk Tea, Sea Salt Caramel, Butterfly Pea Vanilla, Blueberry Yogurt, Dark Chocolate, and Cookies and Cream. They include Acai Bowl and Cakes on their menu too, but they weren't available yet when my partner and I went to visit. For beverages, they serve teas like Black Tea and Earl Grey Tea to complement the dessert.

We faced the dilemma of choosing ice cream flavours, so the friendly staff offered told of various flavours for us. The staff informed us that Thai Milk Tea and Cookies and Cream were out of stock, which I inferred to be the top two most popular flavours. Meanwhile, Premium Pistachio and Mao Shang Wang Durian ice cream containers were almost empty, possibly making them the third and fourth most popular flavours. I was intrigued by the beautiful-looking Butterfly Pea Vanilla which was pastel blue in colour, so I asked for a sample, but unfortunately, it tasted too dairy for my liking.

After trying a few samples, we decided to get Premium Pistachio on Waffles, Dark Chocolate in Cone, and Strawberry Cheesecake in Cone.

Premium Pistachio with Waffles - $12 (Premium Ice Cream $7.5 + Waffle $4.5)

The waffles were made on the spot, topped with a generous scoop of roasted pistachio-infused ice cream. I've seen people raved about pistachio ice cream a lot, but I rarely eat pistachio ice cream and it's not my top choice. My partner, on the other hand, is a fan, and said nothing could go wrong with pistachio ice cream and waffles.

Well, he was right! The pistachio ice cream here left a good impression on me. The texture was creamy, the taste was rich in nutty flavour, yet it wasn't too sweet. I might consider getting pistachio ice creams in the future.

Dark Chocolate with Cone - $7 (Classic Ice Cream $5.5 + Cone $1.5)

Chocolate is my go-to ice cream flavour, so naturally, this was my favourite among the three we ordered. It satisfied my chocolate cravings with its rich cocoa goodness.

The cone was like a cherry on top as it really exceeded my expectations. Firstly, visually, it was 10/10. Next, texture-wise, it was really crispy and did not get soggy at all. Finally, taste-wise, it is addictive and does not have any unpleasant flour taste. As a bonus, I didn't observe this myself, but I saw another content creator saying that the cone was apparently handmade and rolled to order. That's really impressive, and I think Polar Bear Sisters deserve some bonus points for that.

Strawberry Cheesecake with Cone - $8 (Special Ice Cream $6.5 + Cone $1.5)

For a tangy twist, I decided to pick Stawberry Cheesecake flavour. It's not my usual type of flavour as well, and I wouldn't say I loved it at first bite, but the tangy sweetness did gradually win me over, especially when paired with the crispy cone that added an extra layer of indulgence.

Polar Bear Sisters really impressed us with the attention to detail from the meticulously handmade cones and waffles to the delectable ice cream flavours, and I look forward to trying their Acai Fruit Bowls and Cakes one day.
