Brioche Toast served with Fig Jam and Cheese Spread

I’m excited to share this new recipe I made using Te Mata Figs "Just Fig Preserve" Jam, a lovely gift from my cousin who visited New Zealand recently. This fig jam pairs beautifully with cheese, making it perfect for a sweet and savoury toast! It reminds me of the delicious Tangy Strawberry Yogurt Toast I introduced in the very first blog post.

Hayley's Plain Brioche Loaf available at FairPrice Singapore.

For the toast, I decided to try Hayley's Plain Brioche Loaf available at FairPrice (not sponsored). I really liked how thick and soft the brioche is, yet it is not too dense in texture.

Instructions

  1. Toast the Brioche: Lightly toast two slices of brioche in a pan or toaster until golden brown.

  2. Add Cheese: Spread one wedge of cheese on each slice of brioche.

  3. Top with Fig Jam: Spread fig jam over the cheese on the toast.

  4. Serve: Optionally, cut the cheese into smaller pieces or spread it evenly for a balanced flavour.

Figs are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients. They are rich in dietary fiber, which aids digestion and supports weight management, and high in antioxidants like polyphenols, which help protect cells from damage. Additionally, figs are good source of potassium, which can help manage blood pressure and supports heart health. It is said that the darker the fig, the higher the antioxidant content.

Also, figs are a good source of calcium and phosphorus which are vital for bone density and strength. Lasty but not least, the high levels of vitamins and minerals in figs, particularly vitamin C and E, contribute to glowing, healthy skin.

However, note that health benefits of figs may be reduced in fig jams as compared to the fruit itself, as the preservation process may affect the nutritional profile of figs in jams, so do enjoy the fig jam (or jams in general) in moderation.

This combination of soft, fluffy brioche, creamy cheese, and tart fig jam creates a delightful, dessert-like meal. The flavours blend beautifully, offering a balance between sweetness and tanginess that's both satisfying and indulgent.

Most importantly, this café-worthy meal, which could easily be enhanced with a few additional sides, cost just $1.81! If you haven't tried figs before, fig jams are the perfect way to start.
